Winter is Coming… ( Right?)

I finally had the epiphany that I am not a summer person.. I kinda light up when it becomes Fall and Winter, but would prefer to go down to my cool basement and knit when it gets too hot. I am going to put my cards on the table and confess that because I live in the Pacific Northwest.. I think anything over 75 degrees is hot.

So  while I try to survive this weekend (where it is supposed to be int he 90’s) I will  bring my Fall knitting downstairs and prepare for Fall and Winter.

Speckles

I am in possession of some “speckled” handpainted yarn. I picked up a couples of skeins by a few different dyers during my trip to the NYC. Right now I am knitting with some Koigu Kersti (a dk weight yarn) I picked up at Purl Soho. I can’t say enough good things about this yarn. I decided to use it for a Cabin Four’s pattern “Pure Worsted” (IMPORTANT NOTE: I am knitting this in a different weight then the pattern calls for, but I think the yarn will work perfectly (if I add more repeats so I don’t make the shawl to small)).

I do have a few things in the “What would I do differently“(WWID) category, but they are so minor ( I would have held yarn double and made more rows of the 1st section,( just in case you were curious)).

I need to say that I tend to buy more tonal yarns not that I have a thing against variegated yarns, I just have a preference. So it took me a bit by surprise that I feel pretty hard for speckled yarns. I got to see some Hedgehog Fibers while I was in NYC and “Ohh my goodness”, I have some on order from Simply Sock Company and can’t wait until it gets here. I guess I will just need to find something to knit until the yarn gets here

Getting organized

June 13th is World Wide Knitting in Public day, so it was the perfect excuse to organize an an outdoor knit a long.  While I don’t knit exclusively with the Plucky Knitter yarns I am very active in the Plucky Knittier message boards on Ravelry so this was the perfect excuse to get some knitters together (I hope it becomes a regular group).

I brought some yarn to help out a friend's project

I brought my Freshly Fallen, I didn’t realize how fast knitting stockinette on a pullover would go:)

I should be visiting sleeve island soon.

There was some sweater knitting, great conversation, and some slipper knitting too (I actually tried wearing it on my head as it was huge, pre-felted.) All and all It was pretty great afternoon.

WWHI(What Would Happen if)?

I think I am getting in to “Experimentation”. I have bought a couple of yarns and on a “Hmmm… I wonder what would happen with that yarn if I….” Thus the reason for some of my more recent yarn purchases.

Freia Fine Handpaints in the "Punk Rock" color way
Freia Fine Handpaints in the “Punk Rock” color way

I bought some Freia  Fine Handpaints at Tolt last week with some store credit and that.. hmmm I wonder what would happen if I did crocheted a granny square with it ( I really want to see how the graduated color changes occur)

I while back I also ordered some black fingering weight yarn from the Plucky Knitter, I am interested in knitting something with a marled texture and color.

I’m normally pretty planned on buying yarn so I don’t know where this experimentation kick came from, but I plan on enjoying it while it is here.

Out of the haze

I have been having a hard time with yarn and food lately… I have been in the “I see it I want it” plan. Reality hit my hard in the face when I weighed myself and entered yarn into Raverly this week. I am not regretting what I bought or ate, but I can’t lie there were a few “WTF” moments. I  am trying to get back to my old habits.

I think that I am going to give it a week to let everything calm down and see where the dust settles…

I should enter yarn and purchases on the but I am a little embarrassed, so I think we will just go for “Acquisitions: A crap load”.

In the meantime I will just keep on knitting.

99 Problems…

Pre-cable surgeryOkay I lied I don’t have 99 problems. I have just a few knitting ones at the moment. I have 3 WIPS… but one I have put on hold until recently(my Arlo). I notices after I worked the left panel that I shrunk down the cable motif. It wasn’t until I compared it to the back piece that I realized my error. I also noticed that I lost track of where the armhole decreases started so I went ADHOC and tried some new things.

I blocked the piece  while on the needles so I could compare all three panels to make sure that the size of the depth of the armholes would line up properly.

So at the moment things are on back on track…. but it will require a little more brainpower to work through it.

Oh and acquisitions…….. I went cockoo crazy at the Plucky Update on June 5th. What can I say I want a “golden ticket.”

Latest obsession… one of many

I can’t get Purl Soho’s Cashmere Ombre wrap out of my mind. While I have no great love of knitting seed stitch (although I love how it looks), this project is the one that has me jonesing to cast on another project ( which I so don’t need)..

On Pins and Needles

Arlo...
Arlo…

I used to hate blocking, but I think I have come full circle on it and may even enjoy it, although it may be the project that I am working on.  There are few things  more fun than seeing  heavily cabled pattern blocked out.

I am working on my Arlo and was on the fence about where the armholes were on the pieces, so I decided to block out the individual pieces  while I am working on it to make sure that everything will line up.

In other news the needles haven’t been so kind to me in regards to my other projects.  I frogged my whole triangle scarf (a shop pattern from Churchmouse Yarns & Teas) in Alchemy’s Silk Purse (I have started this again). On my Freshly Fallen which seems to be going well I hit a small roadblock when I realized that I didn’t alternate the dot placement so I will have to hear out the last 3 rows. Arghhhhh.. Sometimes is just feels like one never gains any traction on their projects.
